INDEX     ACRYLICS    JASMINE

Retired Musician, Teacher, Music Director, Master Gardener, and Theologian (M.A.)

I studied oil painting with Artist Shirley Stallings and Artist Wally Tate, both from Winston-Salem, NC  in the 80s.and 90s. I have just picked up my brushes again and am immersing myself in Acrylics. I find the medium easy to clean up and therefore a great paint to use when you’re traveling. But acrylics are testy because they dry so quickly and it is quite difficult to ‘mess with’; by this I mean shading and depth and hazing.

You may find me pontificating about the spiritual blessings of nature and art.  That singular bent of mine comes from the Theologian in me.

My granddaughter Jasmine was the catalyst that set my creative art on fire. We began when she was 5 years old using lots of glitter, paste, and pop art acrylics. She has turned into a talented artist who loves sketching; she uses watercolors, alcohols, and pencils. You will see some of her work here.

I am a Master Gardener, but I had to relearn everything when I moved to Florida. Tropical plants and bushes are easy to work with except for the constant pruning; and they make eye-popping, exotic arrangements. Dealing with Florida pests has been a 20-year chore; things you never dreamed of in NC make themselves at home in your garden and your house. I do like to paint the beautiful birds, fish, and icky bugs.
